My name is Peter Harold Bura, the middle name being in honor of my grandfather Harold Hamlen, who was a puzzle cutter in the 30s and 40s, and you can read more about him here. His puzzles have been a source of pride and enjoyment all my life. In my second childhood at the age of almost 54, I have decided to make puzzles myself in fulfillment of a lifetime curiosity. Up until recently, my grandfather's puzzles were the only wooden jigsaw puzzles I had been exposed to, and I have since learned about the legendary Par and Pastime Puzzles, and modern makers, of course. Still, there has been nothing on the market quite like his puzzles, or mine.
I think my grandfather gave me a sense of entertainment in a puzzle, of pace and variety. Things will go along smoothly for awhile, making good progress, and then a piece or group of pieces will bust your chops. Overall, though, the idea is to have fun. To me, not being able to make a move for a day or two is not fun. Nor is a puzzle that will fit together seven million different ways but only one way is correct. For some people it is, though, and it's important for those hard-core puzzlers to know that my puzzles are not that tough. I don't want anyone to be disappointed.
The name Puzzle Art reflects my desire to have some really compelling pictures on my puzzles, and for the puzzles to themselves be works of art, in terms of materials, style, workmanship, and finish. A common reaction for people who have seen my puzzles is to call them exactly that.
My 'day job' is that I am a self-employed accountant. That occupation has given me some useful skills for the puzzle business in terms of general business know-how, computer proficiency and, most importantly, a certain relentlessness in pursuit of the right answer to a question or problem. This has helped me to search out and find the highest-quality materials and methods. I also have some aptitude in working with my hands and find it relaxing.
I hope that you will enjoy your visit to my website. If you should have any comments or suggestions, about anything from the site layout to the types of puzzles you would like to see, please contact me. I would be very interested to hear from you.
